When changed (even slightly), many things with which we are familiar can appear very foreign indeed.
Take the venerable Kit Kat bar. By all accounts, it’s quite unremarkable—milk chocolate on the outside and wafers on the inside.
Yet, these funky, flavored Kit Kats I found at Narita International Airport in Tokyo, Japan are so foreign that they might as well have come from another world.

I’ve never seen this! Interesting!
Wasabi Kit Kat?!! (first photo) Soy Sauce Kit Kat?!! Now that would be way different. Strawberry cheesecake or green tea don’t sound too bad.
I’d take a bite out of all of ‘em, but I think the only one I’d actually enjoy would be the the strawberry cheesecake flavor.
Reblogged this on filmcamera999 and commented:
kitkat…yummy! i still remember all the old makes of chocolates and candy we used to have in engalnd when i was a kid…Treets, Maltesers, Bar Six, Bournville Plain, Jammy Dodgers, Wagon Wheels, Black Jaks, Bazooka Joe, Sherbet Flying saucers, Trebor Mints, the list is endless….!
Sounds delicious! Some of those names I recognize, but most are foreign to me
The desserts look so good…
I concur
Now I want a Kit Kat – but probably not a wasabi one
Great pics for the challenge…
I don’t know, I’ve had dark chocolate with cayenne pepper before and it surprisingly tasty.
Wow – those are sure some funky Kit Kats! Some of them sound better than the regular generic version we all know!
I’m not much of a plain Kit Kat fan myself. I’d rather have a good old, non-US made Cadbury chocolate bar any day.
Even Kit Kats in Canada are different from those in the US…which seems crazy! Great way to fulfill the requirements of the photo challenge! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog!
That’s awesome! What kind of Kit Kats do y’all have up North that we don’t have in the US?
Nice foreign post…yes, whenever I am in Japan I scope for the different flavors of Kit Kat to enjoy. My favorite is the green tea flavor and I heard there is a bonito flavor, but I still have not found it yet.
What does bonito taste like? I don’t even know what that is.
Bonito is smoked fish flakes. Typically, it is placed upon “Agedashi tofu”.
What do you know? Ya learn something new every day. Bonito also means pretty in Spanish.
Yes…if you are referring to a pretty male however =P
The way to my heart – just had a mini KitKat!
Original or funky flavored?
Original!
But Strawberry Cheesecake peaked my interest!
Of all the favors here that was also the one that piqued my curiosity the most, too. If I’d had the yen I would have brought some to try. Who knows, maybe if I’m good Santa will send me some.
